1. When packing, you need to make sure that all of your boxes would each have a weight of 50 pounds or less. This is important as you or the movers you hired would end up carrying the boxes from your old home to the moving the truck to your new home and you need to be able to lift them without straining too much or else you would end up dealing with terrible body pain the day after.  

2. You should also know the proper way of lifting boxes and other heavy items. Remember that you should never bend over so you can pick up an item; instead, squat down and lift the box or piece of furniture using your whole lower body.  

3. It is also essential that you would be renting the necessary equipment such as a dolly and straps. Having such equipment can greatly help you move boxes a lot more quickly and easily.  

4. Aside from the proper equipment, having all the packing and moving supplies you need is also a must. These include boxes and wrap for moving house.  

5. You also need to inspect the area around your old home and new home for any areas which can pose some danger or hazard to you or the movers as you move your belongings. For instance, you could check for any uneven walkway or sidewalk areas as well as posts, poles, tree branches and other obstacles which can potentially pose a problem for movers.
